Funding for Metrology Training - The Tooling Trust

Date: September 2010

GTMA members can now apply for funding towards The National Physical Laboratory’s (NPL) metrology training courses.

This GTMA award, with funding from The Tooling Trust, is designed to encourage companies, with less than 50 employees, to develop their staff through the provision of grants (subject to meeting the criteria) that contribute towards the costs of NPL metrology training courses. NPL offers a Training Framework of dimensional measurement, GD&T and large volume metrology for the UK’s manufacturing industry. The courses begin at foundation level and progress
through to expert – a level to suit all staff requirements - for designers, apprentices, engineers and inspectors. Validated by The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing (NSAM) and EMTA Awards Ltd (EAL) accredited, the NPL Training Framework is a rubber-stamped skills development mechanism. Benefits to the employer of this best practice training in metrology are a noticeable reduction of scrap, less rework time, improved throughput and increased confidence in measurement results.

More information on the NPL Training Framework and its courses can be found at the website below. For a Tooling Trust funding application form, please contact the GTMA on 01844 274222.

High interest in Hexagon's new products: Exhibiting at MMM after success at MACH (above) is Hexagon Metrology which has a host of new products to promote from all areas of its metrology business. Level of interest in these new launches was “very high” said John Drover, CMM and Vision Sales Manager, in fact higher than last year. “This is clearly an indication of growing confidence in the UK manufacturing sector.”
