Nikon Metrology unfolds future plans
Date: October 2010
A major consolidation in industrial metrology occurred last year when Nikon acquired Metris. The newly formed company Nikon Metrology, which is at MMM, focuses on multi-sensor measuring capabilities, including laser scanning and tactile inspection, automated vision measuring systems and microscopes, x-ray and computer tomography inspection systems, and largescale inspection.
Nikon Metrology CEO Kenji Yoshikawa says: “Nikon’s strong company position and long-term commitment guarantees future-proof investments and a growth path for continued product development.”According to Yoshikawa, Nikon Metrology capitalises on the digital inspection market trend. “Using 3D laser scanning, point cloud processing, graphic part-to-CAD verification and virtual part assembly, manufacturers detect potential flaws earlier and reduce time to market. Another trend is tightly integrating geometry inspection into the manufacturing process.”
